Chris Tommerdahl began her 2010 season pushing her anaerobic threshold at the USA Triathlon's Elite Development Race on March 7 at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Florida.
Development races are designed by USAT to allow athletes ages 16-23 the chance to race with elite triathletes and top amateurs pursuing the Olympic team.
The field was stacked with top pros like Sarah Haskins and Sara McLarty. Haskins and McLarty led the field through the 750 meter swim, slightly gapping the rest of field including Chris Tommerdahl. Once on the bike, Chris pushed the pace pulling the chase pack along the 20k course at 24.2 mph clip.
Chris held on for the 5K run to finish in 10th place.
Although it was a 20-hour round car trip for a one-hour lung burning race, Chris said the competition, 70 degree weather and sunshine made it worthwhile.
