| Cid Cardoso |
Cid returns to the team again this year as both a co-title sponsor and a stand-out athlete...and now, Masters athlete. Look for him to put an assault on the Masters ranks, getting back to business on the podium this year in both the NCTS and at his favorite, Iron-distance races.
Cid has more than twenty years of race experience and as many Ironmans on his resume. His modesty hides his history. We recently learned that he was a sponsored triathlete as a teenager in his native Brazil, which is almost unheard of at that time. He basically chose college in the US over becoming a professional triathlete, which explains how an amateur athlete of his caliber beats up a fair number of pros. He is strong at all distances and disciplines but seems most in his element on long, hard bike rides. |

I was born in a little town of 20 million people in the southern part of Brazil called Sao Paulo. Luckily I didn't have to ride 50 miles to school because if I had, I would probably be dead by now, killed by some crazy driver in the insane traffic where I grew up. I did swim competitively for a while and played a lot of soccer. Later, I lived in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, land of Carnaval and Fernanda Keller. I did my first triathlon Olympic distance triathlon at the age of 16, and since then, I've been trying to go longer or faster. I came to the US for good in 87 when I attended UVA. I did a lot of bike racing and kept racing triathlons, and did my first IM in Hawaii in 1990. In 1992, I did Hawaii again and this time I took my wife (who was not my wife back then) with me, as our second date. She was my masters swim coach and she broke up with me soon after we got back. We did eventually get back together and married in 95. We are still married after 12 years and 17 Ironmans later...yes, she is very understanding. We have 3 kids (Alexa 10, Scott 6 and Monica 4) and they bring things like M-dots and aerobars for show and share. I opened Inside-Out Sports in 1994 because my employer at the time was transferring me to Miami, I and saw an opportunity in the future of our sport. It's been a great run...we've grown a lot but I still work just as much as I did in the early years. After so many years in the sport, the Elite Team has been invigorating and rewarding. I still enjoy racing and training and I hope to be able to help some of the younger members in reaching their goals and dreams in the sport. Besides racing some of my favorite races in NC, my goal for 2008 is to complete my 20th Ironman (before I turn 40...I will be 39 in January)! |
