About the TMS-IOS Triathlon Team
The Triangle Multisport-Inside Out Sports Triathlon (TMS-IOS) Team was formed in 2006 to help foster growth in the sport of triathlon in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) area of North Carolina. Most team members reside in the Triangle or surrounding communities, and the majority of team activities and team sponsors are local to the Triangle. The TMS-IOS Team accomplishes its mission through racing locally, nationally and internationally, as well as a variety of other triathlon-related and volunteer activities.
The 2006 through 2016 teams were made up of 15 to 30 athletes who represented the team in local, national, and international triathlon, duathlon, and running events. The 2017 roster has 20 athletes, each selected for their proven racing abilities as well as their commitment to the continuance and development of multisport, their integrity, care of community, and sportsmanship.
Recap: In 2014, TMS-IOS team members were victorious at numerous races, and podium finishes (Top 3 overall) were a regular occurrence in NC. Team members also competed successfully at many national level events, which included Long Course Duathlon Nationals in the spring and Age Group Olympic distance Triathlon Nationals in August. In addition, WTC 70.3 and Ironman distance races were well represented by our talented team. The Raleigh 70.3 brought 13 members out to race, and resulted in 3 top 3 age group finishes. Our group also sent 5 athletes to Mont Tremblant, Canada, to compete at 70.3 World Championships. In the NCTS, 4 female team members finished in the Top 10 overall Open category, and the overall Master’s Open category was won by one of our ladies. On the men’s side, the team was represented by the winner in the Master’s Open category and the 2nd place finisher in the Open category.
The 2017 team will again sponsor several major events in the Triangle as a means to raise awareness about the sport of triathlon and support the local community. In the past, the team has held triathlon clinics about bike fit, run form, swim stroke, training tips, transitions, nutrition and other topics. The team will also help to stage the Tarheel Youth Triathlon Series, which consists of 3 races throughout the summer. These races raise money for Kids Tri NC, a non-profit organization.
Once again, we expect our athletes to shine in 2017. We have several individuals who will be competing in the USAT Age Group National Championships, USAT Collegiate National Championships and some who will represent the United States at ITU World Championships. We also have athletes who are participating in Ironman™ events, and athletes who will be competing professionally across the nation in ITU draft legal and non-draft legal Olympic length events. We plan on 2017 being as exciting as ever!
